Professional Life of Mr. Anand Vardhan
Anand Vardhan is a techno-economic strategist and writer of long-standing with a deep interest in technological development with a particular interest in the life-saving technologies in the transport industry be it in the real-time monitoring of aircraft for inflight safety or the railway obstruction detection system to enable the locomotive to stop 1.5 kilometers before the obstruction.
His deep interest and involvement in life-saving technologies came soon after the Malaysian airline’s Flight 370’s disaster in which 227 passengers and 12 Crew died following the disappearance of the aircraft upon takeoff.
This led to his involvement with Star Navigation Systems Group, Canada, apublic company in the development of the world’s first REAL-TIME Inflight Safety Monitoring System, the Star ISMS which analyses 13,000 parameters of a flying aircraft including n-board equipment failure prediction and real-time transmission of analysis to the ground operations corrective action. Today, Anand Vardhan continues to serve as an Advisory to the Management Board.
Similarly, Anand Vardhan led to the creation of the first Obstruction Detection System for Railways whereby the Locomotive Driver is warned well in advance, 1.5 kilometers ahead of the obstruction to allow him to stop the train before reaching the Obstruction. This three-level redundancy system is a failproof technology that also brings long-distance video of the obstruction to the locomotive driver in his Cabin apart from the size and dimension of the obstruction.
This followed Anand Vardhan’s grave concern at the killing of 59 persons in a train accident in Amritsar which ran over several hundred innocent people squatting on the railway track, watching the Dushera festivities.
In yet another life-saving technology initiative, Anand Vardhan is working on the creation of a universal Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) that could discover and resolve the ‘technical snags’ that today continue to take lives of the men in uniform as one helicopter crashes after another. India today has five different types (technologies/origin) of Helicopters with the Indian Defence forces. Even though these Helicopters are manufactured in India, HAL does not have the Transfer of Technology (TOT) from their original manufacturers (OEM). As a result, HAL which manufactures these machines under licence agreement does not have any clue to solve these technical failures. Anand Vardhan is working on the evolution of a universal HUMS that can help remove all technical glitches which repeatedly lead to helicopter crashes and the consequent loss of precious lives of our men in uniform.
India’s commitment to the Paris Accord to bring down the carbon emission to ZERO by 2070, and its consequent policy dictat for a 100% switching of petrol and diesel vehicles to Electric (EV)s by 2070 if not earlier by 2040. This poses a massive challenge particularly as the country is faced with strong consumer resistance to Electric Vehicles on account of 1) High cost of electric cars, 2) Fear that EVs are not able to go long distances 3) That EVs take 7-8 hours to Charge and 4) Lack of adequate charging infrastructure.
As a techno-economic analyst, Anand Vardhan looked at this transition as a grand opportunity. Working as he does in collaboration with the Delhi Technological University (DTU), Prof Rajeev Kapoor, Head of the Department of Electronics, Anand Vardhan, and his team soon discovered Wireless Transmission of Power as perhaps the bestSolution for Wireless Charging of EVs even in Motion. This proprietary wireless charging technology known as Arka Wirelesshas since become the game-changer for the Electric Vehicle industry. For, EVs can now be charged while in motion. This means EVs will not require to carry big size heavy-duty batteries and just keep charging while in motion, moving from one charging Hub to another. As the battery is the major cost of an EV, any reduction in the battery size will mean a sharp reduction in the price of EV. With wireless charging hubs in cities and on highways, seamless driving EVs on pan-India will also remove the uncertainty of the range of EVs.
As a Founder and CEO of Arka Wireless Pvt.Ltd., Anand Vardhan along with his team is ready to roll out this wireless charging technology as a ‘Service’ on a pan India basis. As this technology is proprietary Arka Wireless Pvt. Ltd. will be the sole player in this business.
Arka Wireless Pvt Ltd. will diversify into Solar Power Generation along the national highways to develop captive power generation to feed company Charging Hubs, thus increasing the profitability of the company manifold by doing away with the purchase of electricity from third party suppliers.
